My old hot air popper recently died, so I thought I would take the opportunity to upgrade to a model that wouldn't spew popcorn across the kitchen. I chose this model because it is sealed during use, and because the description states you don't need to use oil to operate. I have not been disappointed. Even without oil, my first batch of popcorn turned out beautifully. Far more kernels pop than in my previous machine, and burning hasn't been an issue. I currently have white popcorn on hand which usually doesn't pop as well as yellow, but most of the kernels pop anyway.
That being said, this popper is much slower than my old model, but I think it's well worth the wait. I haven't used oil, but I do like that this popper allows you to use butter if you prefer. I do butter my popcorn, but I'd rather not mess with oil in the popper itself, however, I figured if I couldn't pop with kernels alone, I could always take the butter popping option.
It's also important to note this machine kind of big, but personally, that doesn't matter much in my full size kitchen.
I also haven't used the lid as a serving bowl. Others have stated the "bowl" leaks, but my primary concern would be trying to clean butter from the plastic. I'm sure if you don't put any fat on your corn, the lid would be great for dry serving.
All in all, I love this product. It's a little slow and definitely on the bulky side, but the end results are good enough to overcome these small drawbacks.
