I'm typing just long enough to stop eating a cup of sweet, luscious yogurt w. blackberries. This machine makes yogurt that beats all, even
the highly regarded organic brands - simple ingredients, no additives, no excess packaging for the dump or recycling center..
I crave whole milk yogurt, and happily found that using whole milk makes just what I like. Using 2% milk is OK, but there is a lot more whey liquid (which can be drained off) and the yogurt is a bit soupier than I like - but it is still very tasty. It would make good smoothies.
Can't wait to try some goat's milk.
The machine is light and compact. Soooo easy to use. I've been making yogurt every week for 8 weeks, perfect every time.
I chose this model over the 1 quart Salton YM-8 because the separate cups make it easy to pack in a lunchbox. And of course the option to make & take a different flavor each time is great.
The cups and lids are sturdy and clean up very well - it's important to make yogurt w. immaculately clean containers from the pot to pyrex cup (to cool it down) to the cups themselves.
It does lack a timer, no biggie. I have a small freestanding triple timer by Williams Sonoma which can run three timers at once and give the ready signal for each when I'm making yogurt, baking and cooking.
If you love yogurt and want to give yourself and your loved ones a really
healthy, economical treat, this is one fine machine that is worth finding a place for in your kitchen.

Salton's newest addition to the yogurt maker line this unit features 7 individual 6 once glass jars to make single serve portions of fresh homemade yogurt in different flavors if desired. Each jar has a fitted lid for storage after the yogurt making process is complete. The unit has a clear cover with a timer reminder on the lid.
